In Loving Memory of Hyron Andrews

It is with profound sorrow and broken hearts that the Lions family mourns the tragic passing of our beloved lock, Hyron Andrews.
Hyron was more than a player. He was a teammate, a friend, a leader in the quiet moments, and a proud representative of everything this club stands for. His loss has left an emptiness that words can barely reach, and our thoughts, prayers and unwavering love are with his wife Maiglin, his sons Hendrix and Emerson, and every member of the Andrews family.
No family should have to endure a pain like this. To Maiglin, Hendrix and Emerson: please know that you are not alone. The entire Lions family stands beside you today, tomorrow and always. Hyron’s place among us was never defined only by the jersey he wore, but by the man he was away from the field — a husband, a father, a son, a friend and a teammate whose presence mattered deeply to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Hyron arrived at the Lions with a wealth of experience and an unmistakable physical presence, but it was his humility, professionalism and quiet strength that quickly earned him the respect of the changing room. A proud South African, born in Paarl and shaped by a career that included the Sharks, Sale Sharks and representative honours at junior international level, he brought not only ability but character. He was a specialist lock in every sense: tall, powerful, dependable and fiercely committed to the collective cause.
Yet those who knew him will remember far more than his lineout presence or his work in the tight. They will remember his warmth, his calmness, his dedication to his family, and the way he carried himself with dignity. He joined this club recently, but he became part of its heartbeat immediately. He belonged here. He was one of us.
To Hyron’s teammates: we share your grief. The suddenness of this loss is almost impossible to comprehend, especially for those who trained, travelled, fought and shared the everyday moments of professional rugby beside him. Please lean on one another. Please allow yourselves to mourn. And please know that the club, its staff, its supporters and the wider rugby community are with you at every step.
To the fans: thank you for the love you have already shown. Hyron felt the support of this proud Lions community, and we ask that you now direct that same passion towards his family and his teammates. In the days ahead, let us honour him not only with tributes, but with compassion, patience and unity.
Hyron, thank you for everything you gave to this club in the short time you wore the Lions jersey. Thank you for your commitment, your strength and your humanity. You leave behind a legacy of respect, and a family — both at home and within this club — who will never forget you.
Rest peacefully, Hyron. Your name will remain part of the Lions family, always.
Our deepest condolences to Maiglin, Hendrix, Emerson and the entire Andrews family.
Rest in peace, Hyron Andrews.
