The marquee signing of the recruitment drive, and a Springbok. Venter was born in Kimberley, schooled in De Aar, went to the 2015 Craven Week with Griquas and played his Varsity Cup rugby for the Shimlas. He scored a try on his Pro14 debut for the Cheetahs, then spent five seasons at Edinburgh and close to a hundred appearances. He scored a Test try against Georgia at Mbombela in July 2025 and was part of the squad that won that year’s Rugby Championship. Edinburgh announced his departure in December 2025; he joined the Lions on 1 July 2026 on a three-year deal to 2029.
