The Ellis Park Rugby Museum

A behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium takes in the changing rooms, the commentary booths, the dugout and the pitch, with the stories of the dramas and victories that happened on it.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF RUGBY. The museum holds a large and genuinely absorbing collection of memorabilia, and walking the aisles shows you how the game changed. Provincial and international jerseys, team blazers, signed match balls, caps and boots, flags, original artworks and photographs.

NOT ONLY SOUTH AFRICA. The collection reaches well beyond Springbok and provincial rugby. There are rare artefacts from New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and France among others.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR. A Springbok blazer from 1903. A signed ball from the 1906 Springbok team led by Paul Roos. Frik du Preez's personal collection. And photographs of the moment Nelson Mandela, in the green and gold, presented the Webb Ellis Cup on this ground.

HOW IT CAME TO BE HERE. The Ellis Park Rugby Museum was officially opened on Tuesday 1 October 2013 by Swys Joubert and his family, who made their collection available to everyone who loves the game.

WHERE IT IS. Through the main entrance at Ellis Park Stadium, on your right.

TOURS. Group tours for all sizes and ages. Student tours for schools, youth clubs and coach operators. Private tours, with the freedom to ask about the facilities, the history and the current squad.

BOOKING. By appointment only. Corporate and group bookings and stadium tours are both available, and pricing depends on the size of the group and what it wants to see.
