The 2026 Campaign in Numbers
Seven league matches, a positive difference, and a semi-final that distorts every average.
THE LEAGUE PHASE. Played 7. Won 3. Drawn 1. Lost 3. Points for 227. Points against 180. Difference +47. Finished 4th.
HOME AND AWAY. At Ellis Park: played 4, won 3, lost 1 — 159 points scored, 98 conceded. Away: played 3, won 0, drew 1, lost 2 — 68 scored, 82 conceded.
THE MATCHES. Cheetahs away, lost 29-27. Pumas at home, won 52-29. Blue Bulls at home, won 42-19. Griquas away, lost 31-19. Boland at home, lost 38-29. Sharks XV away, drew 22-22. Stormers XXIII at home, won 36-12.
THE SEMI-FINAL. Griquas 52, Lions 12, in Kimberley on 6 September. Seven tries to two. Include it and the campaign record reads played 8, won 3, drawn 1, lost 4, 239 for and 232 against — a difference of plus seven rather than plus forty-seven.
THE SCORING SPREAD. Fifty-two against the Pumas and forty-two against the Blue Bulls in consecutive home matches. Nineteen in Kimberley, twelve in the semi-final at the same ground. A side that could produce fifty at Ellis Park and struggle to reach twenty away from it — which is precisely the pattern the URC season showed at greater length.
THE COMPETITION. Won by Suzuki Griquas, who beat the Airlink Pumas 23-16 in the final on 12 September 2026.
Plus forty-seven before the semi-final. Plus seven after it.
